Mayson 14 months

Mayson is 14 months old already!  We thought we would post some video of her and her newest accomplishments. She has gotten so good at responding to questions that we spend all of our time chasing her around the house asking what animals say? How old are you? and to clap her hands and touch different parts of the body.  You'll have to take our word for a lot of it, since whenever the recording starts, she seems to forget everything.  So, we promise she does actually know the difference between a sheep and lion.  She is also about 50/50 on her monkey sounds, and her daycare promised they heard cow, frog, and pig today.  She does great sticking out her tongue, stretching on command, and of course, handing us books all day long.  Either way, she's pretty cute.

Snowy Adventure

Okay, we did actually get outside too.  All the kids in the neighborhood go sledding at Maple Leaf Park, so we headed up there to check out the action.  Mayson loved watching everyone running around.  We did a little (body) sledding without the actual sled (Target was sold out), but we've got big plans for next year!

Winter Blast 2012 Continued

One news station is calling it "Winter Extreme," another is calling it "Snow Blast," and the other is just "Storm Watch." Either way, it is Wednesday now and we're pretty sure we'll be out of school the rest of the week too.  So, we all know what that means...a week being cooped up at home = lots of photo shoot time! Besides the fashion shows, we have been doing lots of reading and playing.  Mayson can spend all day crawling around and handing us books to read.  She loves to hear them all over and over. I think we'll definitely have to find some new reading material by the time Snow Blast is over (for my sake). As some of the pictures show, Mayson did find some time to dress up Mo Mo, climb up the furniture, play with her laptop, do some yoga, and go outside a little bit too.

Winter Blast 2012

We finally got our first winter storm of the season.  It's been snowing all weekend and we're wondering about school the rest of the week.  Mayson was a little somber when we first took her out on our walk for a yummy Kona Kitchen breakfast down the street, but then she quickly warmed up to the fluffy flakes.  She wanted to crawl around and eat the snow, so we think she liked it.

2012 Milestones

I know it is only a couple of days into 2012 but Mayson has decided this is her year to be a big girl.  All of a sudden tonight she was doing all kinds of new things.  First, she really stepped it up on her dancing skills.  Normally when she presses her music box, she just rocks back and forth.  Tonight, she added some claps, a twist, and some hands in the air.  My ultra-cool dance moves must be inspiring her.  Then, when we were playing with our animal puzzle, she handed me the lion piece and roared.  Seriously.  Then, just to confirm, I asked what sound does a lion make, and she said "roar" again.  Later, when we were eating dinner, she grabbed the spoon from my hand and started using it to pick up the food from her plate.  Okay, I'm not claiming she totally fed herself, but she did manage to scoop up a Cheerio and get it in her mouth.  When we were reading our book about body parts, she showed me her mouth, teeth, and tongue all at the right times.  As if that weren't enough, she reached for the sky and clapped her hands all at the right times during our bedtime sing along of the Hokey Pokey and "If you're Happy and you Know it."  This was a big day.  Oh, one more thing I almost forgot...She has been giving (open mouth) kisses to Noah at daycare.  Should I be concerned she is moving too fast? Here's a couple of new stats:
Favorite food (this week): blueberries
Favorite activity: handing us books to read, and lifting flaps and turning pages while reading
New talent: Rolling the ball back and forth, and driving her train across the floor
New bad habit: opening all of the cabinets (also still a food thrower)

Happy New Year 2012

Well, I will admit we were a little depressed at first when we got back from Hawaii. We all got colds and were stuck facing the rainy weather.  But we made the most of the last part of our winter break doing fun things! First, grandma and grandpa came over for the last night of Hanukkah to show Mayson how to light the candles, and then we started a new New Year's Eve tradition of going to see holiday lights.  We checked out the incredible display at the Bellevue botanical garden. The next day after some morning playtime, we got out on a beautiful New Year's Day to visit the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium.  We LOVED the polar bear and the walrus, and got up close and personal with a peacock and some fish.  Happy New Year everyone!
